Jackie Ying, Profesor Termuda MIT yang Memeluk Islam

Profesor Jackie Ying lahir di Taiwan. Pada usia 7 tahun, ia dan keluarganya pindah ke Singapura. Ayahnya seorang dosen Sastra Cina, d Nanyang University.

Sejak kecil, ia sangat menyukai ilmu pengetahuan, khususnya ilmu kimia. Namun, informasi soal kehidupan pribadinya tidak tersentuh. Ini termasuk keputusannya memeluk Islam.

Profesor Ying termasuk ilmuwan yang menonjol. Ia bekerja di bidang nanoteknologi dan banyak menerima penghargaan di bidang tersebut. Kini, ia menjabat Direkut Eksekutif Lembaga Bioengineering dan Nantotelnologi (IBN), Singapura . Ia juga masuk dalam daftar 500 Muslim paling berpengaruh versi Kerajaan Yordania (RISSC).

Pada usia 36, Profesor Ying menjadi profesor termuda di  Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), dan dua tahun kemudian menjadi anggota termuda dari Akademi Ilmu Pengetahuan Leopoldina Jerman, akademi tertua di dunia untuk obat-obatan dan ilmu pengetahuan alam. Pada tahun 2008, ia meraih satu tempat dari delapan perempuan dalam daftar 100 Insinyur di era modern versi American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

Profesor Ying memiliki 320 artikel, 140 paten untuk namanya, dan mengisi 370 ceramah  di konferensi internasional.
